The Quinn Bill, passed in 1970, gives police officers a 10% bonus for earning an
Associate's degree, 20% for a Bachelor's, and a 25% bonus for a Master's degree. Due to concerns with1) the price tag of this bill and 2) the validity of the degrees granted, the program has been defunded entirely from the state.  The City of Newton is going the other direction - not only does Newton continue this perk for police officers, now the Newton mayor wants to extend the Quinn bill to firefighters
